Storm anxiety ruining my plans again....

I wish rationally I could just push through it like others ignore storms and carry along with their days/plans but I just can't.

I have come ALONG WAY from being basically a shut in after the tornadoes and even got a job that forces me to go to work no matter what the weather says but that's like 6 minutes from my house.

Today is a completely different situation though. There are bad storm threats where I was going and just can't force myself to make the 2 hour drive with my daughter because 1. the fear of the storm alone..even if it's not bad enough to cause us harm.. could cause me harm or make it to where I get stranded somewhere in fear. Just looking at the weather today (over an hour before the drive) made me shake and almost puke. Not a good recipe for travel with a little one.

I feel awful.. Today is one of my oldest friends baby showers. I have known her for 16 years. I know she will understand but I still feel like an awful friend. :(

Did you guys have bad tornadoes over here? It was awful at Lejeune :/

It's okay to be fearful, but you still have to live life.

I am at lejeune.. tt2.. We didn't get any damage to our house but I have had storm anxieties my entire life and a tornado being that close on top of seeing all of the damage it caused really aggravated my anxiety to the point that I was basically a shut in for over a month and if I left the house I checked weather.com at least like 10 times before going anywhere. I had anxiety even going to the doctors to get anxiety medication without my children because I was afraid my husband wouldn't protect them as much as I would (which he would..but my anxiety made me paranoid that he wouldn't get them to safety). It was bad.

So while I should be proud at how much of the anxiety I am working through and overcoming since I go to work even with storms and only let myself check the weather once a day (and some days I don't check it at all) it's still getting in the way of plans so I am just upset about it right now.

Rmof2 lives in LeJeune.

A neighborhood in New Bern, where several Marine families own/rent homes took a direct hit.

According to a news article, the storm destroyed 18 homes, severely damaged 13 others and did minor damage to another 58.

One of our CPUers had severe damage to her home. Fortunately, she wasn't home at the time. Unfortunately, she was out of town and didn't even know what damage was done until she got back here the next day.

If we had 2 cars it wouldn't be as much of an issue because I would just stay at my friends house tonight but with only one car I really can't risk having to stay out there. My husband has to be able to get to work and I was going to be leaving my son home with him since he would not enjoy a babyshower with just a bunch of women. My friend's sons won't be there.

guh.. When we had the threat of Earl and my husband was deployed I thought I was brave enough to ride it out and then the day before it was expected to hit I flew my Dad in. My dad was excited since he never experienced a hurricane.. yup.. he is still waiting to experience one! lol. I told him he can fly out again during hurricane season this year if he wants. haha

Ophelia was bad too. I lived in Swansboro at the time. There were boats out of the water in parking lots on 24.
