I need some advice i'm a little over 3 months preg. and my doctor advises me to do this shot weekly since I had a premature delivery before. I have never heard about this shot til now. What are yall's opinions about the shot.I'm not sure if i should go threw with it or pass it by. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Pass it by and you may have another premature delivery or worse - stillborn.

Go through with it and you may run into a laundry list of adverse side effects or possibly, better yet - a mature delivery.

Progestogen hormones occur naturally in the body to help aid in gestation; hence its name. The shot is just a synthetic form of it.

I'd say that your doctor has weighed the pros and cons of this shot and has decided that the BENEFITS outweigh the risks - in your case.

But ultimately, it's up to you.

Have you done any research?

How premature was your previous delivery?

Did you have complications during your previous pregnancy?

What is your overall health?
Overweight? Anemic? Conception issues, etc?

i've done a little bit of research on it. i had my daughter at 34 weeks she was breeched and had to have a emergency c-section. i weigh about 158 i dont have many health problems at all.

Interesting. I had #3 at 34 weeks, she was breech, I delivered her naturally... when I was pregnant with #4 they didn't make me get any shots other than the Rhogam shot because of my blood type.

Anyway. I survived. LOL

Do you trust your doctor? If you do, there's obviously a reason fod it and the dr probably knows best for your situation

So.. my first opinion was, "I would do anything to have a healthy pregnancy"

but after reading you made it to 34 weeks. I probably would not. If you were in the late 24-32 weeks then yes.

Did they give a "reason" for your preterm labor, did they stop labor earlier in the pregnancy?

Thanks everyone for ya'lls advice i've decided not to take the shot. Doc did'nt realize the background of my first preg.

That, to me, is unacceptable. If it were me, I'd pick another Dr. I mean, THAT is his DUTY - to look at PAST and present circumstances - look at the whole picture and make a professional decision. That's ridiculous - "OOPS - I forgot to read your profile". SHAME ON HIM.

After reading you were 34 weeks and the child was breech rather than "not thriving" - I think you made a good decision.

Thank you. i totally agree with you. I am looking for a new doc. this doc wasn't the doc who delivered my first baby, but didn't seem to do much research either. The more i researched it and asked around i'm pretty sure i made a good decision thank ya'll for you'll advice.
