a3327146uu --- 14 years ago -

Try the humane society in New Bern...that or a pillow case a brick and the Neuse River

Shannon --- 14 years ago -

Crass, yes. But unfortunately, pretty much what she doomed her cats to by not getting them fixed. :/

I hope you find homes for them.

GroomingMyWay --- 14 years ago -

They are not my cats, i took them in for someone else who was just going to put them outside, i am trying to find a rescue that can adopt them out, my home is full and i am not supposed to have them to begin with but thank you for your suggestions

GroomingMyWay --- 14 years ago -

so i tried most of the rescues open today and all are at max..i dont know what do..i dont want to leave them outside to fend for themselves nor do i want to take them to the pound but if it comes to it i may have to...sigh..

Noel --- 14 years ago -

That's exactly what you and Lela judge people for doing to Huskies, even if they weren't yours to begin with. Someone has to be responsible for them, and at the moment, that's you. They don't have anybody else, and they can't help that. I hope, when it comes down to crunch time, you make the right decision.

Have you tried what you guys do for Huskies even when they're out of state? Putting up pictures and tagging all of your friends/asking them to be spread across Facebook? Can Lela or her family help you? She owns her home, now, and I know she's taken on whole fleets of dogs at a time - those cats, even just one family of them, really only need a room where they'll be safe and a bit of attention. Maybe start by advertising one at a time, rather than all three, or tough it out/dodge inspections, which are rare, until the kittens are old enough to adopt, then post -those- one at a time? For some reason, even when a person knows they can only handle one of something, just seeing the number will make them shy away from contacting you. Have you posted to Lejeune Yardsales? Also, fliers stuck on local bulletin boards can go a long way - I think there's one at the laudromat in town.

There's nothing about those creatures less important, pitiable, or worth inconveniencing yourself to save than y'alls Huskies, and I, if alone, will have a hard time taking those efforts as seriously henceforth if they're left to die. There are a hell of a lot more stray, abused and abandoned cats out there than that single breed of dog, I can PROMISE you that. Please, please don't add to the number.

Even taking them to the pound means that, unless someone waltzes in and starts snapping up the cute little kittens, they'll not only be killed, but will be taking up more space there until then, starting a pretty terrible progression, if you catch my meaning.

I wish I still lived there.

I completely 100% agree with this and it's why I get sooooo annoyed with people lecturing about dogs but then time and time again people ignore when it happens to cats! Cats just don't seem as important to most people and treat them like they are less than a dog.

Try going into petsmart and see if they can help you with pointing you in the direction of a few rescues. Also try the jacksonville petsmart. Petstores are not ideal but I am sure you could try to work with some pet stores as well (but that would require you keeping the cat and kittens until the kittens are 8 weeks old) but it is an option out there. When I worked a ta petstore we took in kittens all the time.

Agreed completely Noel.

For you to come on here and say "If a rescue won't take them, I am taking them to the shelter" is absurd. You agreed to help these cats out, so see it through. Try finding new homes for them. Do your part.

Bwahaha RM, we must have been posting at the same time.

LelaBelle --- 14 years ago -

This is bullsh*t. Don't put my name in this. I never said that cats are less important that dogs, or that their plight is less serious. My rescue does not take cats as huskies tend to be cat aggressive and it would be dangerous for my cats to bring home rescue dogs.

Me and my rescue have nothing to do with anyone elses decisions and therefore to take my efforts any less seriously is bullsh*t.

Dallas, you know how I feel about this. I will not condone you taking them to the pound or putting them out to fend for themselves and honestly i am shocked and really appalled that you would consider it, let alone mention it o a site that ties you with m rescue and smear our name.

Inexcuseable.

Noel --- 14 years ago -

No one ever said that you said they were less important, ever. I reminded -her- of that fact. Your name is mentioned twice, once to say that you judge people who do this to Huskies, which is the absolute truth (and it's usually something you do as a team if you're around at the same time, hence the mention), and once to ask if she'd brought the issue to you yet.

And, dude, you're agreeing with me, so there's no need to fly off the handle just because your name is on a post. Your name is on a post because the two of you work together with the Husky rescue, and talk about it here, often, so it's a good way to remind her of what she's involved in and how bad this looks.

Lady, you've got to stop reacting with such misdirected aggression whenever someone mentions you, it's almost never as bad as you think it is at first and I hate to see you always thinking you're being attacked when you aren't. :(

LelaBelle --- 14 years ago -

I Just work really hard on my rescue and this isn't something I want to be associated with us. I am getting better about not damning everyone that rehomes their pets.

Noel --- 14 years ago -

Maybe I didn't make my point clearly enough, though, now that I read back - I meant that I would not take HER efforts as seriously, but I said, "y'all's Huskies," because I'm not sure how involved you guys are with the same dogs. So that part was my bad, and I'm sorry it looked like I was condemning your work, if it did.

LelaBelle --- 14 years ago -

It did a little...but I'm glad its cleared up. :)

VanishingAct --- 14 years ago -

Not that you have done anything wrong but if people associate cat dumping to someone who works with a RESCUE they are going to judge the rescue as a whole. It sucks but it's reality.

Even if you don't condone it.. it still looks bad on the rescue that she would say such things especially in a place she talks about the rescue.

Rehoming the cats would be honorable but saying she will basically dump them if they aren't rehomed is the same pathetic guilt trips that tons of people harp on dog rehomers for. That same kind of guilt trip caused me to take in a dog my family wasn't proper for because I was GUILTED. I would HATE for anyone else to take these cats in because they felt guilty and then struggle with burdens their family isn't in the place to handle (obviously what she did but now it's her responsibility)..

Jersey Girl --- 14 years ago -

I think that Lela was trying to get that ^ point across. She doesn't want her name associated with this mess.

GroomingMyWay --- 14 years ago -

the post about taking them to the pound was posted by my sister and i couldnt figure out how to take it down..i would never ever consider a kill shelter for any pets ever im totally against it in every way...we have decided to keep them untill homes are found or a rescue has an opening. i never in any way wanted to bring lela or the rescue in to this as i know she doesnt do cats..i applogize for my sister posting under my name and saying such things as that. like i said we are going to figure out how to hide them untill homes are found..

lela you know me better then to think i would actually take an animal to the pound to be put down...im sorry your name and SHR got put in the middle never my intention my intention was trying to find fosters for these cats untill kittens are born..yes i know they should have been fixed but it was to little to late..now im dealing with this and trying to figure out the best way. any suggestions or if you know anyone willing to take even one of them please let me know im willing to drive 2hrs if i have to take them to someone..

again i appologize that i didnt catch this sooner and have it squashed.
