So - we're treating her like we would the kids - no food but lots of water? She's thrown up 6 or 7 times in the last 15 hours. Is that what I should be doing or.... ?

nikki --- 14 years ago -

did she eat a bunch of grass? My dogs puke like crazy when they eat grass. Or maybe they caught a toad, toads will make them sick as heck too.

chloe doesn't eat grass, but she could have eaten a rodent or a frog. Not sure. Also not sure what to do. She's never been sick before.

:( poor girl

GroomingMyWay --- 14 years ago -

you can give her pepto 1tsp per 10lbs of dog

JHarp --- 14 years ago -

I give my dogs a piece of bread and half a tablet of pepto when they get sick.

Yup -- you're doin' what I do for my dog. Nothing by mouth for 12-24 hours (other than water) after the last episode of vomiting. Then, I feed a bit of plain, boiled white rice. Small amounts, several hours apart. If she keeps it down, you can add in a bit of her dog food and transition her back over to her dog food completely.

Is she drinking a lot of water? Could be that the liquid only isn't sitting on her stomach well. Might try a small meal of plain, boiled rice to see if she'll keep it down.

Is she feeling well otherwise? How's her activity level? Any diarrhea?

Ja Ja Jacky (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

She is drinking water still - not too much. She seems to be fine other than the now 8 times she has thrown up. Maybe I'll boil up some rice tonight for her. Thanks DVM! Appreciate the feedback.

I hope she feels better soon!

How's she doin'?

Ja Ja Jacky (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Thanks Lela

She's not throwing up anymore but she isn't eating either. She at about 1/4 white rice last night and that was it. Nothing since. She normally LOVES white rice. I added it to her diet months ago at your suggestion so I know she loves it.

aww, poor thing. i know that *I* felt sickish to my stomach for a few days recently, hopefully it's something that will pass quickly!

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine --- 14 years ago -

It could be that she's still feeling nauseous even though she's not throwing up. Or, she could just be a bit iffy of eating since she hasn't been able to keep anything down.

I'd continue offering her the rice. You can try some plain, boiled chicken, too.

Hopefully she just needs some downtime & her appetite will return this evening.

Ja Ja Jacky (Mod) --- 14 years ago -

Yeah, that's what I am hoping. She gave me sad eyes last night because I wouldn't let her sleep with me. then this morning, same thing as I was leaving for work. It's really heartbreaking.

Bless her heart!!! Least she's still trying to work you. :-P
