I don't get on here much, but I do need an opinion on something. I live in Slocum housing and have discovered that there is someone living in the trees behind our house. We are in the back of the housing and there is a walking path behind the house. In between the path and the house is some woody area. I caught a glimpse of a blue recycling bin and walked in a little further and found a tent and a some other things that made it clear someone was living there. They even had their uniform cap on a rock. Should I call housing and let them know or should I just call the police? Not really sure what to do?

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

Police!

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

PS- the uniform cap would have made me a little uneasy. I somehow doubt it's military personel living in the tent there. Could quite easily be someone that dresses as a Marine for some purpose other then liking the drab.

or maybe a kids playtent area? for "camping out"

Rachael --- 13 years ago -

Definitely not a play area. I thought maybe it was just a spot someone went when their husband or wife made them mad, but I made my husband go back further and he said someone was definitely living there.

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

yeah, then I'd def call the police is "behind the fence" considered on base or community of havelock?

if on base call the military police, if off base local non emergency.

Rachael --- 13 years ago -

I would think that it is still the base area because you that walking path goes straight through housing and then behind our house. Thanks for the help. I just didn't know if I should go straight for the police or just let housing be aware of what was going on.

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

Me personally would call the military police tonight, and then housing on Monday.

(but if the area is not technically housing, I don't amcc will be able to do much other then call the police too)

Rachael --- 13 years ago -

Thanks Champ. I appreciate the help.

Lovebug3 --- 13 years ago -

I dont know if this is more sad or creepy...I would def call the police.

Rachael --- 13 years ago -

Called the police and they sent some officers out. They said that it looks like it has been abandoned and children might be playing out there now. They kind of made us feel like idiots, but I was just being cautious.

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

wondering what made them think it had been abandoned... I'd say sounds like a quick accustation to make since your husband went out and looked in it and thought someone was def living there. Did they take the tent down and throw it away or leave it there?

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

oh and for curiosity sake- the cover, did it looked like it had been there for quite awhile? worn in, dirty rained on etc?

Rachael --- 13 years ago -

They took it down. I just don't understand why they would think that parents would let their children play with dress covers outside? Oh well I guess.

Mrs Deeds --- 13 years ago -

Makes me sick to think of the possible scenarios that could have happened. I can't believe they would make you feel like an idiot, seriously thats your family if anything you would think that they would patrol a little better so that you don't have situations like that. also it could have been abandoned like a few hours after you and your husband checked it out.

I just don't understand why they would think that parents would let their children play with dress covers outside?

they probably think that way because if you check out the children on base, children are all over the place, with out their parents knowing where they are, unfortunately... And they are like between 7-10... that i have seen.

What scenarios?

That a homeless person was living in a tent in this sweltering weather? That someone down on their luck found a safe place to lay their head?

Apparently, whoever WAS living there, wasn't causing any problems or the OP would have noticed the camp sooner.

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

^^ best caase scenerio, but honestly if I was up to no good living in the woods, I probably wouldn't make myself known to the people I'm "living" behind.

Exactly.... even if they had a uniform... impersonating a military you hear about so many bad things happening with someone camping out.

Penelope --- 13 years ago -

Impersonating a military just because he owns a hat? There are many scenarios that could be true with someone caught with a military cap. Maybe he's an ex military and it belongs to him from another time in his life? Maybe he found it in the trash or at a yard sale and needed something to cover his head and protect from the sun.

Boobsy McNicehiney --- 13 years ago -

Did you ever think maybe this person just has nowhere else to go? I really doubt they have any intention of doing anything to you. You are most likely irrelevant to them. I'm sure them being behind your house isn't about YOU.

They are probably just trying to survive.

It's hot out there. Why not send your husband out with a cold drink ffs.

Some people have no decency.

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

Meh, the problem with this situation is no one knows what's going on. We can all speculate wether the person was up to no good, or wether they were just looking for a spot to hang their hat at the end of the day. I'm sure the person didn't feel like they were being peeped in on, or the person waits for them to leave to break into their house to get a glass of milk and some cookies, but we nor them, or the cops know anything for sure.

DO I feel like they need to get a k-9 unit out there for a man hunt? No. But you can't just assume it's absolutely nothing either.

And not to be the person who says, "I'm not homophobic, I have a gay friend" but when I was younger before I had kids, I took home squatters, and train jumpers, people in bad spots and fed them and let them sleep on my couch, picked up hitch hikers. Their situation doesn't make them bad people or up to no good, but in relaity anything could have come out of doing that. She has a family she has every right to be concerned.

How sad.

GroomingMyWay --- 13 years ago -

i would have left some non perishables and a bible and called it a day..you dont know his situation and now he has no home yet again because the cops tore it down.who are we to judge others who have fallen on hard times perhaps he is former military and the VA has turned its back on him..to call the cops was a crappy thing to do..i would have done nothing but try and help this person..

Little Miss Knowitall --- 13 years ago -

Why leave a bible? Non perishables would have sufficed.

Obviously, God turned his back on this person. Otherwise, they wouldn't have had to live in a tent in the woods.

champatlife --- 13 years ago -

*likes* deb hahaha

Because hes homeless that means God doesnt care? So God doesnt love anyone who cant afford a home?? When something bad happens it means God has turned his back?? What about people in other countries who live in tents- God doesnt like them either?? Never learned about that in church.

Little Miss Knowitall --- 13 years ago -

To turn it back on you, because he's homeless, he needs a bible?

I guess he could always put it to good use, the way the Sears catalog was used back in the day.

8^p

5 thread topis in one day..and none of these are new. Wonder how the Admins think about that?

GroomingMyWay --- 13 years ago -

maybe deb just maybe it would give him some enjoyment and happiness in his life..maybe it would give him hope to not give up..maybe he needs to be remided that god loves all his children and that he has not been forgotten. you know the food only feeds the body so maybe the soul needs some food as well..

Nah, since you all think this is some deranged nutball out to get the OP, he would see the bible, get in a rage, and run in her house and chop her into pieces.

Have a blessed day.
