So we are due with our first at the end of the onto and I've been trying to go by and take a tour of the birthing center we will be delivery at. Unfortunately, my last 4 calls to them have ending with "Sorry, all the rooms are full....try another time." I told the lady I've tried several times and if I can just take a tour of their facility without seeing a room, to which she rudely answered, "well, then you would just be seeing the hallway." I don't know if it's because I'm cranky and huge, but I don't want to be walking in there blindly. Or worse....I go into labor and there will be no rooms available then either! Shoot, maybe I do need a tour of the hallways incase I have to labor outside while waiting for one of these elusive rooms to open up. Any advice? I guess I could try again next week, but being 38 weeks pregnant makes it a pain to just make a trip to Morehead City more than I have to. Anyone have experience giving birth there? I hope when the big day arrives I don't have to deal with rudeness like I got on the phone! Ahhhh, ok.....rant done. Thanks!

Where is the Brady Birthing Center?

Is that Carteret? There's always room available.

I had my older son there in 2006. I loved it. I was disappointed I have to go to New Bern this time.

If you were in a room just after giving birth, would you want someone to come in and tour it? Probably not. If they are full, they are full.

I'd keep trying. Just be sweet about it. People tend to be more accomadating to those who are nice to them.

Yeah, just venting cause I'm frustrated, but I'll keep trying a few days next week. I'm just scared cause I honestly don't know what the heck the whole process will be like since it's our first. I plan to bring in sweets to the staff when I do go into labor because I've worked in the healthcare field and know how hard they work. I don't plan on being a diva, but the attitude I got from the lady on the phone today was just unnecessary.

I would definately keep trying.

I'm not sure if it changed, but when I had my son I had him in the room I stayed in until we left. It was a huge private room. They have a nursery available if you want to get some sleep but you do not have to put your baby in there except for an hour or so in the morning when they do measurments and things like that.

They also did a dinner for two one night. They bring in a candlelight steak dinner for two and if you want, they will take the baby to the nursery. Again, you don't have to send the baby.

Wow. That sounds pretty nice compared to the things I've heard. Why did they say you have to deliver at new bern this time instead of Brady?

Why is it so hard to go with the flow? It is a hospital. It looks like a hospital. It has rooms in a hospital. Once you are in labor I don't think you will care so much. The only thing that really matters is the CARE they give you.

I had a really horrid nurse for my first 24 hours of labor. Talk about crappy bedside manner. Then the next 24 hours of labor I had an AWESOME nurse! Not everyone has the same experience and I'm sure not every room is the same. So expectations can change. Just trying to be real.

Good luck with the labor and all.

Luck of the draw. The doctors they had available and were able to treat me were based out of New Bern. I have heard good things about New Bern too, I just wouldn't have minded going somewhere familiar.

Hopefully you can get in soon and tour it.

Boobsy, did they have you fill out any pre-registration paperwork when you went in before labor started? I just want to make sure and get all my ducks in a row before the big day....I'll be running by on Monday to try again. Maybe an ambush attack will work better ;)

I filled out all of my paper work prior to delivery. If you go downstairs next to the ER and go to the desk and tell them you want to register they will tell you what to do from there.
