With recent government furloughs and even more anticipated work stoppages, the Food Pantry in Havelock is running low and trying to feed more families. If you can possibly contribute to help restock the shelves with nonperishable foods, please contact:

Havelock Cherry Point Ministerial Assoc.
925 East Main St, Suite 20
447-5190

Every little bit helps!

Ridiculous.

Not even 24 hours and people are hitting the food pantry?

Since the Military will continue being paid, that means government workers are hitting the food pantry.

If those workers didn't anticipate this coming, after being furloughed earlier this year, then they're fools to believe it wouldn't happen again so soon.

How did I anticipate there would be something gov shutdown related.

Though I see so many ways people are Affected both big and small, I am still astounded by posts and "recruitment" for things like this. I would understand if the shutdown continues weeks and months (longest one so far is 3 weeks) that posts of this sort would start, but Really 24 hours later? I can't imagine Anyone is living on ramen yet unless they were previously.

Random scenario game....the government breaks a world record and is closed for business until tax season will the IRS be working?

:)

The food pantry always needs help. This was the latest request from them.

I think they were already running low and they are trying to prepare. Even so, it's only 55 days until Thanksgiving and I am sure the food pantry would take your donation now and stock up for then to help government and non-government alike.

It makes sense for them to plan in advance so in the event that the shut down is longer than a few weeks they are prepared and not having to turn people away since obviously they are still taking care of the families they were taking care of before the furloughs. Also maybe the people who are being furloughed were the ones who typically were donating to the food pantry and now they cannot afford donate being that they are unsure of how far they need to make their savings stretch to feed their own family. You never know the circumstances so to me.. it makes sense.

Food Stamp Changes Cause Mad Rush to Food Pantries

I think you are right RM... Furloughed employees are not giving as much and with the changes in Food Stamp amounts to some, there has been a mad increase in the use of food pantries...

Yeah.. this food stamp stuff is weird.. last month they sent me a 4 page letter to explain the changes in my benefits when they randomly decided to add $4 a month to my benefits and then this month they sent me another 4 page letter explaining change in benefits with a $30 decrease.
