Give us your pet peeves about resumes or job applications and reasons you would throw it out and not consider calling...

BOOM BOOM BOOM --- 12 years ago -

Well poop it didn't work...

Mine is not bringing your own pen to write with while filing out an application at job site! If you can't prepare yourself with a pen, you are not prepared enough to work here.

MusicNote (Mod) --- 12 years ago -

Poor grammar and those resumes that look like they came straight from a template.

If you want to fill out an application or drop a resume off you don't need a group of friends with you to do it!

Now I know who could possibly be a distraction for you and it shows me you are not indepenant

LelaBelle --- 12 years ago -

Probably Felonies.

Or having your underwear showing when you fill it out... Just because I work at A&E does NOT mean that I want or need to see your skank nasty thong or bra straps.

too much personal info...

don't wanna know what your hobbies and family life are like.... That category might as well read:

REASONS I CALL IN SICK.... LOL

Little Miss Knowitall --- 12 years ago -

Improperly dressed, spelling errors and not prepared, ie: no pen.

Ja Ja Jacky (Mod) --- 12 years ago -

No pen, coming in groups, having kids waiting in The car. 3 to 4 month jobs in your past. Being unemployed and writing that you quit your last job because they didn't give you enough hours. Filling it out, dressed in a moo moo and slippers.

MusicNote (Mod) --- 12 years ago -

Using slang words or coming in with gold teeth. I understand that may be cheaper and I sympathize with that aspect but for the most part, I think people do it because they want to look cool and it looks.....well, ghetto. I also can't stand someone asking for a resume while being rude or NOT coming in dressed for an interview. If you're going to pick up a resume, you need to be interview ready when you come in to get it.

In my mind resumes are pretyped, applications are filled out in office, but among things listed for applications- not completely filled out. If you don't know your old employers # look it up. Back before everyone had a cellphone I used to write on a notecard my jobs addy and phone numbers, along with my references, so I would have them to put in. Of course now that I have a big girl one all this is already on my resume.

Hat turned sideways, gold in your mouth, lookin' like a fool with your pants on the ground, get 'em up!

Misspelled words, improper grammar, stains.

I hate in an interview when I'm told they are already looking for time off. Or when I'm told that they might be late sometimes but "It's okay - I will call and let you know." What happened to something called WORK ETHIC??

BOOM BOOM BOOM --- 12 years ago -

I disagree with asking or telling about time off. I think it's more professional to tell a future employer before hand of an already planned vacation or somewhere you have I be than to get hires and have them tell you afterwards.

It lets me know that you had prior engagements before the interview and you are responsible I letting me know prior and that you care.

If you are wanted enough and you blew away the interview allowing a great employee that time off also let's them know you give a crap about you.

I had a boss who wouldn't ever hire anybody who didn't bring their own pen! When her daughter would take people's applications (when they weren't there) she would write notes on them and if she wrote anything negative (smelled bad/had no pen/used a calculator to make change) then they were automatically thrown away.
