Hey! Sooo, we are pcsing back to CP in the next few months and I was wondering if there are any spouses here whose husbands are attached to vma-542? Last time we were at Cherry Point, I was working full time, so I didn't get to take advantage of all the base had to offer. This time I'd like to branch out, meet new friends, and be involved! 

Used to be. Just about every wife I knew there has pcsed. Good news is its almost time for a new CO.:) 

I just read that they got a new CO end of January but he won't actually take over until summer. Was it that bad? Any advice you can give me about the unit? How often do they deploy? 

He was a slave driver 12 on 12 off ( which usually meant 16 hour days) many stints of 7 days a week. They had a big lapse in deployments ( almost two years) but things seemed to have picked up. We've been away for a year now, but I've heard rumors from others about a land det to Afghanistan coming up in the late spring/ summer, but the person who told me about it just recently left the unit too. I think there is still a fb page called " tiger ladies" for the wives and I know there is a vma-542 one too. 

All the wives are dependapotomuses, the marines are lazy winey beotches. And officers drink on the job. They force you to company get together a and talk smack behind your back.

Supposedly my husband was told that he is pcsing there for further deployment this year. Wow, summer would be soon since we don't check in until June 1st. Hmmm... I found the vma542 facebook page. I'll look the spouses one too. Is the Admin shop attached to the unit? Or is it at the Pac? Wow, I wonder if the hours will be the same...

Oh and my husband said he heard October for the det. 

Oct is better than July! It stinks that he is coming off recruiting duty and then going to deploy this year. But it's what we wanted. It seems like a really family friendly unit, so that's a plus side. 

It seems everyone I know as soon as their hubs gets off recruiting they deploy with a quickness. We however have two years of recruiting left, hah maybe we will end up back at 542.

I want Yuma but hubs says the jets are too hot to touch in the summer and aparrently nights are colder than his liking.

I don't know he's been there on a ton of dets at least 2 to 3 a year, but I have two years to work on it. He might decide to lat move regardless.

Wow, so they deploy a lot. That's only 6 mnths apart. Are they usually 6mnths away or longer? I could use any info you all have!!! August is so soon from never seeing him during recruiting! Such is life I suppose! Thanks for the info!

I don't know anything about Yuma, but we are in W Texas now and it is hot. I mean extremely dry and hot. I feel like a prune all the time. Dry, drought, scorpians, unreliable weather and little water.... I don't like Texas weather and I think I would die in Yuma. Just my opinion. I've never been. but if it's anything like where we are in Tx, I'll pay. It's over 100 most days from June through Sept. I can't wait to be back to NC where there is at least a hint of seasons :) 

There was a two year stint with no deployments, but now its seemed very back to back since 2010 they've been running two meus at a time half the unit to japan half to the transatlantic. The afghan will be the first land deployment since 07/08. ( minus a couple week stint they had and only a handful of guys went )

My hubs says the canopies don't do crap and anyone who says differently doesn't actually touch a jet. Ha
