They may not want outside help working with their equipment but others can bake and donate and plan to attend the BBQ fundraiser.... Maybe a group of Marines or Sailors can contact them for some heavy lifting support???

Many of you have been asking to help. Band moms can help this weekend by baking treats for the firemen stationed at MHC #1 and #2, Wildwood, and Atlantic Beach Fire Departments. You are asked to drop off the food in the front office of WCHS between the hours of 7:30-10 a.m. on Monday. We will include some thank you balloons when the drum majors drop off the home-baked items at each firehouse later in the day on Monday as a thank you for saving our school building! Band Dads are asked to come to band practice with your child on Tuesday to help clean our uniform carts, and other items from the fire. In addition, our band semi-trailer is receiving a much needed facelift and the men are currently removing the decals and preparing the trailer for a new decorative wrap. More info should be coming via a Band Blast shortly about both projects. We are also in the beginning stages of planning a huge BBQ fundraiser to benefit the uniform replacement fund at the Friendly Market possibly for the Saturday after band camp on August 10. It may also include a band performance so stay tuned for more details.

I thought insurance was going to cover the uniform replacement.

They should be ahead of the game when the insurance settles because in addition to the new uniforms, there were old uniforms that will be covered as well.

Insurance covers what they were worth, not what they cost, right? They were used uniforms. I doubt the insurance company is dishing out $80,000+ for uniforms.

Depends on the insurance Jacky.. My insurance covered actual replacement cost and not worth.

Champ --- 11 years ago -

I don't. Feel there is a need to break this down. The school/band is asking for donations to help get everything back in working order as fast as possible. If its something you or someone wants to donate to do it from your heart. If its not something you're Into don't and just smile politely. I'm sure Vicky relayed everything how it was relayed to her. I hope that if there is extra when they rebuild they'll find a good way to donate it from their hearts, and if not that's just how things typically go.

Jacky,
Depends on the insurance coverage.

There were brand new uniforms in addition to old uniforms.

While the old uniforms were probably still useable since they weren't disposed of, the money received from them can be put towards any deductible there may be. They won't have "backup" uniforms any longer, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

They've also received several thousand dollars in donations in a few days time.

Champ,

Thing is, there are MANY youth organizations hurting for money. If WCHS will be made whole from insurance, then they really shouldn't be fundraising for money they really don't need to get back up to speed.

There are so many fundraiser events competing with each other. Those funds could serve other youth in the community.

Insurance usually settles within 30 days, so it's not like they will be waiting an extended amount of time to replace things they will need by the start of the school year.

What happened?

Which is why I think that if someone doesn't find this a worthy cause they are better suited to donate their money elsewhere. :) if I had only $20 to donate, I would do so to where my heart felt would do the most good. Which may or not be for a high school band. I personally try not to take apart other organizations efforts in the meantime. :)

Little Miss Knowitall --- 11 years ago -

Not trying to take apart the efforts.

The tone of the call out for help sounds like they're going to be hurting if these fundraising events aren't successful.

Vicky (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

I only copied a portion of what is on the facebook page.

They were asking for baked goods for the fire departments as a thank you. (No gain for the band there).

They are asking for help cleaning. (No money there).

The are going to have a BBQ fundraiser which is just to help thier uniform fund.

I know they have received over 6000.00 in money donations so far.

All not for profit groups are hurting. I believe it's better to give local than to give on a national or global scale.

Help or don't help.

I am part of the Havelock Band Booster Program and still would like to help reach out to the communities to get thier program all the help they could possibly need.

Neighbors helping neighbors.

Peace Love and Applesaurce

(yes, the r is supposed to be there)
