Just wanted to let everyone know of a possible scam in the area. A woman came in to report that over the weekend she was approached by a heavy set white male with a beard (approx. 35-45 years old) who claimed that he and his family were homeless. He was asking for gas so they could make it to a local church to ask for help.

As the woman was pumping gas, the man's son (12-14 years old) ran over to the woman's car and tried opening her car door. Luckily her car doors were locked. The man then yelled out, "good try son", and they jumped into their white van and sped off. The only thing the woman knew for sure about the van besides the color is that the back hatch is from another vehicle because it is black in color. 

Oh fabulous. However, if someone did manage to get into my car while I was pumping gas. I'm certain all they would find is a sippy cup, a few raisins, and maybe a pissed off todder. She doesn't care for strangers. I don't carry cash and my only card goes in my pocket while I pump gas :)

Why would Havelock be exempt?
It's transient community, with the military constantly coming & going.

There's been a young woman standing at the 70 entrance to Walmart at least 3 times a week.

Her sign says "Young Mom. Need help." People have given her cash & disposable diapers, that I've seen.

No idea how she gets there or where her child is. 

Yeah.. people are constantly being ripped off around here.. I always lock my car doors at the pump.

I'm from an area where bums run rampant, supposedly (I didn't see it- friends did)they had a news story about how much money these "homeless" people really make a day off the donations of others, and it was mind blowing.

I've been "scammed" numerous times by their sob stories, from the out of gas, milk for kid, money to feed their dog (dog was actually with them). However I've met some amazing squatter kids due to my generosity, life long friendships formed, so it evened out. 

What was the goal? To steal the car? I'm old and heavily insured. They can have it. 

I know right!? Free car for my arse! Here is my $500 deductable. New car here i come. I used to pray people would steal and trash my trailblazer. POS!

I feel so bad because every time I go to the childrens hospital, there is one corner where a woman stands. She's skinny but not dirty. Her clothes are worn but clean. And her sign always says, "Just hungry." If I don't have money to give her I feel so bad. In my mind, if you give because you're spirit is giving, it doesn't matter what they spend it on. Tell yourself you bought them a hot meal and move on.

She's probably referring to another military wife that she refuses to hang out with because the girl obviously has a husband who is too stupid not to get deployed

I agree MN. If it is in my power to help someone, I do. No questions asked. If they have other intentions, not my fault. You help others to help them, not to judge and not to get anything in return. 

I've always wanted to give Wal Mart lady an application for employment. If she really does have a child/children to take care then I'm sure whoever is watching them so she can stand outside all day will watch them so she can get gainful employment. Unfortunately, Wal Mart has the computer system not paper apps. 

She's not there all day, every day.
