Has anyone had any luck with sitter city, care.com, or the on base referral for sitters? I am looking to find a date/event night sitter on a semi regular basis. I feel so bad asking friends, especially when they have kids of their own. I would much rather have a regular sitter, but unfortunately I dont know anyone with teenage girls or such.

Shiekwa --- 12 years ago -

I have never used the site to find a sitter for my kids, but I have used care.com to find a dog sitter. I don't like the idea of having to pay money to spend more money (paying a website to find someone else to pay), but I couldn't find any local advertisements on the Internet and I don't like pawning my dog off on friends.

I think it'd be good to find a sitter though, if you're willing to pay the money, because some of them have a background check uploaded and references posted on their profile.

I don't know if you know Vicki in real life, but her teens might be an option, if they are still babysitting (and if Vicki allows them, too)

When we lived there, her oldest babysat for us quite a few times and she was wonderful with our daughter.

Woo how old are the kids and in havelock?

AnnonyMiss --- 12 years ago -

Sitter city is paid for by DOD for active iTunes families. Don't know if you're aware of that or not. Good luck finding your sitter.

Shiekwa --- 12 years ago -

Is active iTunes supposed to say active duty?

Can't believe I used care.com! I'm signing up for sitter city, if it's free.

Tarheelover --- 12 years ago -

I use sittercity and care.com to obtain employment I Nanny a 2 yr old little girl Monday through Friday and then I do evenings and weekend or overnight weekends on date nights for people. I am CPR and first aid certified,SIDS certified,a early childhood educator, have about 26 yrs of experienced taking care of babies, toddlers and children. I have had a background check done on sittercity.

Mrs Zim --- 12 years ago -

The peeps I babysit for found me on care.com and Craigslist

BOOM BOOM BOOM --- 12 years ago -

Why do I find SiDS certification funny? I mean, common. Do you really need a cert. for that?

Tarheelover --- 12 years ago -

Actually yes SIDS certification is a requirement for any for any certified NC child care providers working with infants and toddlers.
http://ncchildcare.dhhs.state.nc.us/providers/pv_itssidsproject.asp

ITS-SIDS In-service Training Requirements

All adults who provide care for infants 12 months or younger are required to be trained in Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) risk reduction. The Infant/Toddler Safe Sleep and SIDS Risk Reduction in Child Care (ITS-SIDS) is the approved training. It prepares child care providers to follow their facility’s safe sleep policy.

In child care centers licensed to care for infants 12 months and younger, the center director, owner or operator, and all child care providers scheduled to work in the infant room, including volunteers counted in staff/child ratios, must:

Complete the ITS-SIDS training within 4 months of assuming responsibilities in the infant room, or within 4 months of as assuming responsibility as a director, owner or operator.
Complete the ITS-SIDS training again, no more than 3 years from their previous ITS-SIDS training.

Family child care home operators licensed to care for infants 12 months and younger must:

Complete the ITS-SIDS training within 4 months of receiving their family child care home license.
Complete the ITS-SIDS training again, no more than 3 years from the completion of previous ITS-SIDS training.

BOOM BOOM BOOM --- 12 years ago -

Lay baby on back. Here's your stupid cert. why on earth you have to pay for that and or sit in a class or read a page off the web is beyond me.
SIDS is short for your baby suffocated. I've never heard of a baby dying laying on their back. If so I'm pretty sure the doctor doesn't know why and chalks it up to "SIDS".

You only take that dumb cert so you don't get taken to court.

I also provides family and care givers with a SENSE of security. Blah blah blah

Boobsy McNicehiney --- 12 years ago -

So much for your question MrsWoo.

Boobsy McNicehiney --- 12 years ago -

What can we talk about next now that people are actually talking? Food stamps? Social security? Breastfeeding?

Tarheelover --- 12 years ago -

You take the class because it's a requirement in NC and if you want to work in a child care facility or own a licensed home daycare and have infants in your home you take it.
As far as class cost it is like $5.00.
Sadly not everyone knows to put baby on their backs especially those of older generations as grandparents or great grandparents ages and many of people those ages do work in daycare centers so this class is informative to them.

I'm not trying to argue just trying to pass on information.

Tarheelover --- 12 years ago -

Sorry Boobsy.

BOOM BOOM BOOM --- 12 years ago -

Yo! I'm not saying its not required. In saying its stupid!

Ironic thing is...that older generation didn't have problems with SIDS even though they laid them on their tummies. Makes ya kinda wonder, eh? Why not blame it on something else. Like the chemicals in the mattresses they mandate to put in them. Or the chemicals we wash the sheets with.

Some people will argue with you about laying them on their backs. What if the vomit? What if the vomit suffocates them? Maybe side lying is better?!

Tarheelover --- 12 years ago -

Boom I kind of agree with you IMO the whole SIDS scare is because of crib manufacturers wanting to scare parents into buying their products.
SIDS was prevelant in years past and only recently last generation or so has it declined.

Boobsy McNicehiney --- 12 years ago -

Why are you sorry? I was saying how boring it was in here. Poor Woo just wanted a question answered though. lol

AnnonyMiss --- 12 years ago -

Shiekwa yes. Sitter sorry is free I your spouse is AD.

WooTang (Mod) --- 12 years ago -

Poor Woo just wanted a question answered though. lol

Haha if my lil ole question can spark some life into the board, even if for a day, go for it! I have been busy so its been interesting catching up on the thread.

Boom-My kids are 2 and 5 and on base

I do like that these site background check, but even crazies can be crazy and not get caught. However, if I keep thinking like that I will never have a date with my husband till my kids are way older. Ha

Boobsy McNicehiney --- 12 years ago -

I feel ya. If my parents didn't move down here too I don't know when we would go out. I'm really paranoid already but I can't leave Connor with too many people.

Little Miss Knowitall --- 12 years ago -

Thus the testimonial by Tarheelover. If her profile is on either of those sites, I'd seriously reconsider using ANYONE on those sites.

MrsSmitty10 --- 12 years ago -

How do i sign up for sittercity if we are active duty? Thru military one source or something? I might actually look into that. Thanks for sharing.

AnnonyMiss --- 12 years ago -

Go to sitter city.com and I think it has an option to select if you're military and it will ask a few verification questions. I thnk that's how it worked if my memory serves right

Tarheelover --- 12 years ago -

I probably should not post while pissed but this involves my job and potential clients,I am very good at my job and love what I do I don't let the drama in my life or online interfere with what I am doing while at work.
The families I Nanny and baby sit for have been very happy with my services and they are often repeat clients.
I am currently a Nanny for a Teacher and a Marine and was just ask to Nanny their friend's 2 year old daughter also.
You can think what you want of me but when you bring drama and make comments about me being crazy which you only know me on a website (CPU) you have made it personal and are interfering with my job, income and means I use to support my family.

Funnies --- 12 years ago -

But...none of this would be relevant if you.just.weren't. on the site talking about such things.

You brought it all on yourself. Whether or not it affects your business - that's on you to control.

Tarheelover --- 12 years ago -

All I did was anwser the OP's question.
I have been here for 162 days without causing any issues I have remained civil to people and I have remained calm.
are you saying that if someone asked a question that pertained to your job abd you answered their question and then someone else started crap you'd not be upset?
I have a right to post or answer a question but that does not give others the right to talk crap about me that interferes with my lifelihood.
